A New Chapter: Moving into My New Studio, "The Soft Current"

Updated: 4 days ago

After returning from my artist residency in Korea last September, I unexpectedly discovered that a bicycle shop very close to my home was moving out. I had always admired the shop’s beautiful glass storefront and felt this was the perfect opportunity to fulfill a long-held dream: moving my studio and opening a small ceramics shop.

I took over the lease and began the renovation process. I asked a friend who specializes in woodworking to design and remodel the space. The new studio is about 66 square meters (20 pings). A central wall divides the space into two parts: the front section is a cozy 26-square-meter shop, while the remaining 40 square meters in the back serves as my dedicated studio and kitchen. There is also an outdoor area at the very back where I’ve placed my kiln (under a newly built rain shelter).

It has been three months of ups and downs. The renovation process was, at times, incredibly frustrating and stressful, and the financial investment definitely made me feel a bit insecure. However, the space is finally finished, and I am thrilled to announce the grand opening of my new studio!

To celebrate, a friend helped me design a really nice poster, and I’ve invited several fellow artisans, illustrators, and gardeners to showcase their work in a special two-day pop-up event.

I hope everything goes smoothly! If you happen to be in Tainan, I would love for you to stop by and say hello.
