From Tainan to Kyoto: My Experience at KYOPO 2026

This October, I was delighted to be invited by ChinChin Pottery to participate in KYOPO (Kyoto Pottery Expo), formerly known as the Kiyomizu-yaki Village Festival, in Kyoto, Japan.

Held once a year over three days, from the third Friday to Sunday in October, KYOPO takes place in the Kiyomizu-yaki pottery district in Yamashina, Kyoto. Centered around the Kiyomizu-yaki no Sato Museum, the area is home to many shops related to Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki, ranging from pottery stores and artist studios to suppliers of ceramic materials. It is a special place where Kyoto’s rich ceramic traditions and contemporary pottery culture come together.

Traveling from Tainan to Kyoto, I was happy to bring my work to a city with such a strong cultural identity and a deep connection to ceramics. My work is made with Japanese porcelain clay, which gives me a special sense of connection to Japan and its ceramic traditions. Being able to share my pieces in this setting made the experience even more meaningful.

Throughout the three-day event, I met many visitors, including both international travelers and local Japanese customers. It was wonderful to see people taking an interest in my work, learning about my process, and choosing to bring my pieces home with them.

I’m grateful for this opportunity to connect with people through ceramics and to share my work in a place with such a rich pottery heritage. I hope to return to Kyoto for another opportunity to meet fellow makers, exchange ideas, and continue building connections through clay.

Thank you to everyone who visited my spot and supported my work. It was a lovely experience, and I hope to see you again in Kyoto!
